Join PWAC

PWAC members enjoy a comprehensive package of benefits and services designed to support, develop and expand their freelance writing careers. The tangible and intangible benefits of belonging to PWAC include networking, professional development, publications, discounts, work leads, collective action, and much more.


PWAC Membership Levels and Criteria

PWAC has three levels of membership: Professional, Associate and Student.

NB: Former PWAC members who wish to rejoin do not have to requalify, please contact the National Office for more information.

Professional

Professional Members - over 80% of the PWAC membership - have access to full PWAC benefits and services. They can also hold Chapter and National Board of Directors positions and attend the Annual General Meeting as voting delegates.

To qualify Professional Members must:

1. Have published, for pay, within the past 24 months any THREE of the following:

  • Magazine or newspaper articles (print or on-line)
  • Major writing projects (e.g. annual reports, government reports, newsletters, speeches, documentaries and scripts for radio, TV, film or live performance radio broadcasts, telecasts, press kits, brochures, information kits).

OR ...

2. Have magazine or newspaper staff writing - one or more years full-time or equivalent part- time experience.

OR...

3. Have published one non-fiction book.

Associate

Associate Members have access to all PWAC benefits and services except for serving in Chapter or National Board of Directors positions.

To qualify: Associate Members must have published at least ONE non-fiction freelance article or major writing project of at least 300 words for pay within the past 12 months.

Student

Student Members have access to a number of PWAC benefits and services.

To qualify: Student Members must be registered as full-time students at a recognized post-secondary institution in Canada.
 


The longer a writer is a member of PWAC, the higher their pre-tax income.
